Real Support
for Seniors

Helping Ajax seniors age with dignity, comfort and connection.

Older adults in Ajax have paid taxes, raised their families and helped build this Town. If they reach a point where they need residential care and 24/7 support, they deserve real choices that allow them to remain connected to the community they call home.

I have met with Seniors for Social Action Ontario, and we will be working together to advocate for small, fully staffed, neighbourhood-based homes for up to six older adults who require 24/7 support, right here in Ajax.

A Home, Not an Institution

Being frail and requiring residential care should not automatically mean being placed in a large institution or becoming disconnected from family, friends, familiar parks, cafés and the community you know.

Seniors deserve a real home they can enjoy for the rest of their lives.

A comfortable place where they can:

  • Feel safe and supported

  • Maintain as much independence as possible

  • Build friendships and connections

  • Remain close to family and friends

  • Continue to be part of their Ajax community

For families, it could provide greater peace of mind knowing their parents and grandparents are receiving the support they need while remaining close to home.

How Could It Work?

Ajax could explore acquiring and renovating suitable homes to meet accessibility requirements and partnering with a reputable non-profit organization to manage care and staffing.

Provincial funding opportunities would need to be pursued to support the care provided in these homes.

Rather than simply saying the funding exists elsewhere, let’s make the case for bringing that investment to Ajax and putting it to work for our seniors.

There may also be an opportunity to create a financially sustainable model where rental revenues contribute toward the cost of the homes, with the potential for future surplus to support Ajax's municipal budget once those costs are recovered.

Protecting Ajax Taxpayers

Any proposal must be responsible and financially sound.

The numbers must make sense. Funding must be confirmed. The right non-profit partner must be found. Ajax taxpayers must be protected.

This is an idea that deserves serious exploration, proper due diligence and collaboration with the provincial government, experienced care providers, seniors and their families.

Keeping Our Seniors Close to Home

Our seniors helped build Ajax.

They should not have to leave their community simply because their care needs change.

The need is here. Let's pursue the funding and partnerships to meet it.

Let's give Ajax seniors more choices, and the care, comfort, dignity and quality of life they deserve.
